Options for partially vacant property

Hello,
My situation in a nutshell is that I am looking to buy a house in Scotland in the next six months. However, I will only be occupying the property every second month, as I currently live down in Reading where I am fortunate to have very cheap rent as I housesit for a friend who spends most of the year out of the country. My question is, what are my options when I am not staying in my house in Scotland? I doubt I'll be able to rent it out based on the fact I'll be there every second month. Would it be worthwhile pursuing a kind of Air BnB option, or is there any other way in which I could make money from the property when I am not there? Thank you!

Surely you're spending unnecessary money by going to Reading - unless they pay you to do it? If you're paying cheap rent and not gaining anything else, it's time to give notice.

Yes, I work full time from home. My partner lives and works in Maidenhead with no option of moving jobs so it helps to be down here and have space to work from my friend's house. While he is out of the country, I only pay £100 rent monthly so works out very well. My reason for wanting to move to Scotland is that my father passed away last month and I want to be closer to my mum, who has no one else around her. So, I have connections to both Scotland and the South.0

Don't know how it works in Scotland, but if England I would be getting a lodger. Provided your house is actually your home, you have a bedroom there, stay there etc. then you can let the spare room to a lodger without their becoming a tenant. Clearly the Reading house isn't your home so I think a lodger would be work for your house subject to if Scotland is similar to England. Need to check it's OK with mortgage lender, insurance etc.0
