Travel insurance claim due to illness

Hi
My partner is due to go abroad in the next few weeks. We haven't yet got travel insurance and has just been diagnosed with Vertigo. If we now take out travel insurance would this have to be as a pre-existing medical condition? He is awaiting his appointment at the hospital in June. If he is unable to go on the trip would we be able to cancel and get his money back.
Any help would be much appreciated.
TIA

It would indeed be a pre-existing condition and they are generally not covered for cancellations. You will usually be asked about medical history and if you or a family member are waiting for any hospital appts/results etc when you take out a policy.

Yes it will be a pre-condition and no IMO you will not be able to claim anything back.
Now if you had purchased the insurance when you booked the holiday and there was no medical problems then probably you could have claimed.
