Free Legal Cover??

I am about to take out car insurance and have been wondering about the motor legal protection option. I had heard that I may be covered on my home insurance, but sadly not in my case. However, as I have trawled for information, I have found this organisation, Lawcover, who are offereing free motor legal protection in an apparent attempt to undermine the MLP scam. It claims to cover your whole family, for free, and says it makes it's money by charging an excess of 300 quid, which your solicitor would pay, instead of paying more to pick up the case from your insurance broker who charged you about 30 quid for the MLP policy in the first place.
If this is as good as it looks, why doesn't everyone use it, and why isn't it mentioned on here? If it isn't, what's the catch? Look up Lawcover on google and tell me what you think. Thanks

You could try this one. (No connection I found it through google).
They will send you quotes and some "offers" through the post etc.
You can add a number of vehicles.

    http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/freelegalcover.php

    Why doesn't everyone do it?
Well apathy is great for companies, people just sign up to it on their policy and the vast majority cannot be bothered to google for "free legal cover".
Many businesses take advantage of this trait.
  • This is from Adfrian Flux " By obtaining Free Legal Cover from Adrian Flux you agree to receive a NO obligation quotation on your motor insurance policy from us when your policy falls due for renewal"

I don't really want an insurance company saying they are giving something to me free when its not. They are always trying to get something.

I found a little site called freelegalcover https://www.freelegal.cover.co.uk no strings attached, no insurance company and you don't have to do a quote for car insurance.

    Know thats free legal :j
  • There is another company offering Legal Protection Cover for £4.99, called www.matthewsguide.co.uk.

This website now also gives you FREE access to useful money saving tips to cut your motor insurance.

Be careful when using Adrian Flux, I know of someone who was charged £37 - three times!!!! - for changing their address.

The Matthews Guide Legal Protection has been tried and tested and comes recommended by me. All details can be seen on their website, so you know exactly what you're buying.

The odd thing about this market is that you are paying for a no-win no-fee lawyer.

The system for lawyers to claim back a fixed scale of costs off the other side is only about ten years old and not well known. It suits production-line claims against insurance companies where there are known values to claim and standard combinations of facts, often un-disputed.

A solicitor in Wales called RTA110 pays 10% cashback on some road traffic accident claims if you win, simply because they don't have to pay a claims management agency to introduce you. They are in a position to turn-down all but the best cases if they want, but there's nothing on their site to discourage run-off-the-mill applications. One of their press releases claims that legal insurance companies typically don't pay insurance premium tax on their subscriptions, and an interview with the boss of DAS (the largest insurer) in The Observer quotes him as saying he has to charge no-win no-fee lawyers for his service because "it's the only income" he gets.

Sadly the system doesn't work for the the messier things life - divorce or employment - where the amounts of money claimed are small and the files of contested facts and laws are big.
  • Hi,
Is there any ‘Family legal protection cover’ which covers issues such as divorce, discharge of non-molestation & occupation order? I solely own the property and merely left to provide some breathing space due to my wife’s abnormal and insane behaviour but she later changed the locks and based on fabricated evidence got these two orders against me, which I trust would get discharged but I need a good solicitor, something I cant afford, at the same time, I am not entitled to legal aid due to my earnings. I am currently paying for the mortgage for the house I cant enter, rent for my separate accommodation, money to CSA and outstanding debts I cumulated during our 2 years marriage. We have 2 children too.
Thanks in advance for your help.
  • I stumbled across SAM. http://www.smartam.co.uk/

It's an accident management company - they say they do all the protecting your excess and claiming back uninsured losses.

There are many no-win no-fee accident solicitors out there that will do the same things.
Please note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!
  • Hi

I've used SAM (Smart Accident Management) and the service I received was excellent. The took all of the hassle out of what could have been a stressful situation.
