Sky will give you some money off depending on how long you've been with them. They offered me the box at £249 with free install, or £199 if I installed it myself.
There are a couple of sellers on Ebay with high ratings selling boxes for around £185 inc p+p.Dave. :wave:0 -

just a question, how is it free install, if they are going to charge you £50 more for the box if they install it, than if you are going to install it yourself, sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one, Dave.Take every day as it comes!!0 -

Yeah I know, but I think the 'free install' is aimed for those going from a standard box straight to a HD box.Dave. :wave:0 -
Just so you know if you buy HD and already have sky plus the install is very easy to do yourself as the cables are the same from the dish.
I have been considering buying an HD box myself but have held back. If you want to get SKY HD content then you have to pay £10 per month extra for the sky channels - you could still get BBCHD for free but that's it. There is talk of Ch4 and ITV going free HD next year possibly.
The cheapest independant place to buy is probably ebay as suggested in the AV forums:
http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=261
The problem is, if you have an issue it's hassle to get it fixed and they do often seem to have issues. If you get from Sky they will look after issues for 12 months but then you have ot pay the £10 for at least 12 months as well as pay more upfront for the box.
Another reason i have held back is that the HD boxes appear to have some issues with sky+ functions like fast forward etc. Again read at the AV forums.
Cost is about £185 on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-SKY-PLUS-HD-HIGH-DEFINITION-SATELLITE-BOX-QUAD_W0QQitemZ130166390617QQihZ003QQcategoryZ96971QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Be sure to check that the seller has added VAT as some quote vat exclusive prices on ebay.Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0
