ESA Medical Assessment

Hi, my partner is too ill to work and even though she has a permanent condition they assess her every year.

This time it has been over 4 months since she done the assessment and we still have had no decision made. She is extremely stressed over this and thinks they are going to deny her claim because it's taking so long. It is usually done quicker.

I want to please ask anyone else who is assessed for ESA, has it taken this long for them to give you a decision? is this year longer than usual for everyone?

Thanks.

There's no time scales for any decisions. It all depends on back log in their area. Your partner can ring DWP and ask if a decision has been made, if it has they will tell them. They can also ask for a copy of the assessment report to be sent to them, if a decision hasn't been made then the report will give them some idea to what the decision is likely to be, as they mostly go with that report.

They can also re-assess at anytime.

ETA. Has she had a face 2 face assessment, or just filled in and returned the ESA50 form?
  • She didn't have a face to face assessment this time, just filled in the form. I did phone them but they didn't tell us anything.

So you don't think it's unusual that it has taken 4 months and still no decision?

This doesn't mean she won't have another assessment. She could ring the assessment providers to ask them what's happening. It's not unusual to wait this long for an assessment, even for a review.

Just so you know the ESA50 form is not the assessment, it's just a form that has to be filled in and returned.
  • I returned my ESA 50 review form in August last year and still waiting for a decision. Two face to face appointments cancelled in last month and still no idea when it will be resolved.
