Garden sheds

I am looking for a new 8x8 shed with an apex roof and am considering one that I have seen in person for £995 (down from 1595) which looks to be of excellent quality v buying one online for some £300 less. However, with the latter option there is no guarantee of quality and I would rather see the item before purchasing (however, is this worth £300?).

I would be keen to hear about positive experience with buying sheds online and website recommendations, where possible. Having never purchased a shed before I have no doubt that there are factors that I have not thought about so please do feel free to give any advice, however simple it may sound.

I bought a couple of "Empire" sheds from Wayfair, they went up OK without any fettling (two person job due to the size of the panels), don't leak, survived the 70mph gales without drama and haven't rotted. But whether I'll say the same in a decade's time, who knows?

Ours is by Forest (not Foresters). It's 8 years old now and still in perfect nick.

The only negative is the instructions - whoever wrote them assumed that we knew what we were doing. We didn't. Got there in the end, though!

What sort of price did you pay? Does £995 sound excessive for an 8x8?

Just under £600 8 years ago, which was worth it for the quality.

Have you had a look at the current Forest prices?

ADD: Just had a look. Can't see our shed, but the nearest is a 8x6 pressure treated tongue and groove for £699 with free delivery.

I put a coat of Ronseal onto my two sheds the other week when we had the summer, we were discussing the age of them and I could not belief it they are 38 years old and still in good nick

It really is worth going to a local shed/outbuilding specialist IMHO.
All will tell you laying a decent base is the key also to longevity, so I had a 8 x 6 base laid of 25cm concrete and then the local shed place installed the shed onto that. Not as cheap as a B&Q special on paving slabs but it'll still be there in 20 years.

Yup, local shed shop, 20 years ago, it's still standing. The local shed shop isn't though!

I looked at local shed shops - all over £1000 plus delivery for a 8' x 10' shed with reasonable spec (not the thinnest cheapest base and boards). In the end I bought one on Ebay from a company called Brieley Hill sheds for £765 plus £75 delivery. I am really pleased with it. I got someone in to assemble it who thought it was really good too. I would recommend a look
