What happens if I give a notice to Virgin Media as the bill is too high?

My virgin media bill has gone up to £55.99 and I called them today and the best they offered is £44. Which also seems rather high.
I have read people on hotukdeal mention that they have the same or better package than I do for a lot less ie between £24-£30.
I have taken up the £44 offer but have 14 days to take action. I am planning on calling and telling them I am leaving as the bill is too high and I cannot afford it which is true. I have no back up provider I can use so really do not want to leave but try my luck at getting the price down as much down:p
Question is if I call and give a 30 days notice, what happens after 30 days if I am not offered a better deal, can I stop the cancellation?

Yes you can, it happened to me months ago, I had to call with 4 hours left to being cut off, they didn't phone me.
I put another cancellation through a week or 2 ago, still no callback, may have to Vodaphone offer through later £18 a month being as t's the day to do so.0 -
Did you get the service back with the price you were paying and what did they say when you said you no longer want to cancel.

I would do it the way cjdavies explained it above. However, when are you planning to call them? I think the time is a big issue here and you should do this in a timely manner in order to be taken serious or serious considerations.0

You also have to be willing to lose the service on day 31 .0

I got service back, but paid more than I wanted :-(
When I ring them on the last day, I'm dropping phone, I don't have one, used to be cheaper having one, doesn't seem to be now.0 -
What nobody mentioned is if you accepted the offer of a renegotiation on the basic rate (at a saving of around £130pa) this invariably comes with a new minimum term - after 14 days this is locked in place so giving notice would trigger an early termination fee.0

OP, have you considered the package you are getting, and reducing it to reduce cost. I'm with VM and paying £35 ish a month for phone, calls & BB - no TV0
