Best antivirus software and internet security

Hi to everyone,

My PC is currently lacking in Antivirus software and internet security.

Which of the software available can you recommend? I know there are free versions avilable but surely these can't be as adequate as purchased ones! I am not sure what to do.

Please help
If this has helped you please don't forget to click Thanks, thankyou.

You really do need to get antivirus as quickly as possible

Either AVG Free or Avast are excellent, equally as good as paid for versions, just google

You also need antispyware, try Spybot Search and Destroy, and Super antispyware, both also free programmes

Avira is one of the best free AV programs I've used.

I'm voting for Avast and Spybot, as usual! Both free, and friends of mine actually ask me to uninstall Norton for them as they find it is very resource hungry and slows down their computers. I replace it with Avast and everyone has told me they much prefer it, however, if you search the threads people have differing favourites, such as AVG (free), ANTIVIR, KASPERSKY (paid) NOD32 (paid) AD-AWARE (free) etc etc.
Also I use 2 programmes to free up the junk from my hard drive/cookies/favourites, these are both free and are called CCLEANER and ADVANCEDWINDOWSCARE.

See http://www.pcpro.co.uk/labs/155/antivirus-software/products.html for a review of some of the ones already mentioned.

One point to note is that Antivir is also free, at least the personal edition is.

And significantly better than Avast according to the above tests.
Avast Verdict: A distinguished history, but outclassed by the competition.
NOD32 Verdict: An eccentric package that gives only average protection.

    Depends who you believe!

Irrespective of which one they use, I would echo the advice to the OP to get something on their PC as a matter of urgency. If they've been online long enough to post 125 times on here with no AV protection, their PC should be as infected as an NHS hospital.
