Advice about my house, council tax, etc.

I wasn't sure where to put this! it's a bit long winded.
Anyway I've had a rather eventful weekend starting with catching some teenagers who had broken into my neighbours yard and wandered around my own yard smashing some tiles. So I went out and told them to do one.
An hour later they were back and throwing stones at my back windows, i chased them again, they stood at the end of another road and taunted me. I called the police who took a very brief statement.
The police left just as it was getting dark and as they turned the bottom of the road I looked up the road to see shadowy figures walking down it. I went inside and could hear voices, opened my door again and they ran away. I closed the door and heard a horrible smashing noise. Someone had gone to the back of my house and thrown something through my bathroom window. This was Friday.
Last night when i thought that it was all over someone then threw a half brick through my kitchen window.
I've had to take the day off as my kitchen window is covered in a flimsy board and i was concerned that someone could easily break in - adding burglary to my woes.
Today i am really !!!!ed off and shaking like a leaf!
Some questions: I need to board up the smashed windows - Who will do this job for me? Who do I contact? A joiner an odd job man? The insurance company?
More advice neede!d.
I view my house as uninhabitable - For a number of years i was either too poor or too ill do do house repairs. I don't have any heating, my only hot water source is a shower, and now i have no windows. If I just board the house up, (I'll rent somewhere) and inform the council the house is not suitable to live in will my council tax be zero amount for the year?
My concern is that this vandalism may be on-going and it might be wise to lock it up for a while until the bad guys go elsewhere. Thanks for any replies and advice.

It's not that easy as your property wouldn't be regarded as uninhabitable for council tax purposes.
It's likely that leaving the property would not remove it as your 'sole or main residence' unless you can show it's a permanent move.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
