giving out bank details.. is it safe?

Options
i probably know the answer already but.....

i paid some cash into someones bank account (they give me account/sort numbers) for some goods however the deal has fallen through and they would like to give me a refund....... is it safe to give them the account/sort number so they can pay it direct into my bank

this would be the ideal arrangement as i need the cash back asap but is it safe to do it?

Unless it is someone you know really well and are convinced that they are trustworthy then probably not.

It might be safer to get a cheque from them. If you get a bank draft or bank cheque then it won't bounce.

I do not see the security issue. Anyone who you pay by cheque gets your details.

Your "mistake" was to pay into their account in the first place. There is no way to get your money back without their agreement.

Yes, I hope you did know the answer!

You provide your account details (name of account, sort code, account number) just as they gave you theirs.

The worst (!) they can do is pay money INTO your account.

It will be quicker than getting a cheque cleared.
