Hi,

just wondered if it was possible to get sky television in more than one room without paying the multiroom subsrciption? We currently have the Sky + package in the main room and just the basic 4 analogue channels on the other 3 televisions in bedrooms. Just wondered if there is anyway of running a cable off somewhere or the cheapest way of getting satellite in the bedrooms - we arent in a freeview area and arent likely to be until at least the changeover date for our region which is december 09

ive seen loads of sky boxes etc on ebay - can you just buy them off ebay and put them with other tvs?

thanks

We recently bought the [SIZE=-1]Technika TT-07 wireless video sender for £20 from tesco, it works brilliantly and can send the remote signals etc. Obviously you can only watch the same thing on both tele's. There is also an output from the back of the sky box to have the sky on another tele so combine them and you could get it on 3 TV's.

I've seen those boxes you can get which will distribute sky, obviously my suggestion and those boxes mean you have to watch the same on all teles though.

thanks for that, we are already able to watch whatever is on the main television on the other televisions, when the sky man set us up he put it so it sent out through an existing cable to the other televisions

Ideally we would want to be able to watch what we wanted on the televisions in the bedrooms

the only way you would be able to watch different channels on different tvs is by having multiroom i`m afraid, if you already have cable running from your sky box to other tvs, i would suggest getting hold of a thing called a magic eye, there are loads of them on ebay, most undr a fiver, then at least if nobody is watching sky downstairs, you can always turn the channel over, from the comfort of your bed, hope this helps, Dave.

right so if we got one of these magic eye thingies we would be able to watch sky in teh bedrooms and change channel from there but we would have to get multiroom if we wanted to be independent?

the sky boxes that are for sale on ebay - what do they do - do people buy them to replace theirs or how does it work buying on there?

    thanks

yes, you run a cable from the rf2 port on the back of your tv, then run the cable to required tv, connect it to the magic eye, and then connect magic eye to tv, turn on the rf2 output thru your sky remote, cant remember of the top of my head how to do it, but there was a thread on here started yesterday that explains how to do that, also if you do purchase a magic eye, they generally come with instructions on how to do it, and away you go, u can change channels from the comfort of your bed, as for the boxes on ebay, dunno why people buy them, but as far as i am aware for sky + u need a double lnb, and for multiroom, you need a quad lnb, attached to ur dish, otherwise there is no chance of getting a different feed from your dish, to seperate tv`s, other than the way thats already been explained, hope this helps Dave.

Sorry if this is a daft question, but would it not be possible to use one of the spare lnb outputs for another telly, even if it meant only having the freeview channels? For the benefit of the nitpickers on here, I do realise that the original post stated no freeview possible, it's just a general question on the theme.

Definatly possible, however unless you are using 3 lnb outputs its unlikely you would have spare one on the dish (they fit a single lnb for normal sky, a dual lnb for sky plus, a quad lnb for anything else and above) There are plenty of places on the net you can pick up dual and quad lnb's though and change it yourself (be careful up ladders though ;))

But yeh you could run a cable off, get a sky box, and would get freeview (you would have to ring sky and pay 20 notes for a freeview card to get all the freeview channels but I think you get most without a card - itv, channel 5 and sky three are 3 i know you don't get without a freeview card)

I took up one of sky`s offers and got a second sky+ for a pretty good price, I ran the cables for the new box as I know the installers will not go into the loft etc.
Once the sky chap arived and found out most of his work was done, my existing quad LNB disappeared and was replaced with an eight way one. So now I have 2 x sky+ on multi room and my original digi box connected to the computer for news 24 etc..

Anyway point is with an eight way LNB available you should not have too much trouble using digiboxes in any room you please just get the prevoisly mentioned £20 card if you want all the free channels.

It has been mentioned before here but have a look at the forums on digitalspy for just about any info you need on Sky.

    Cheers,

    B
