Finding a venue where we can do our own thing!

Ok, help me out here gang.

Im looking for a venue where we can take our own booze and have our own caterers etc.

Where on earth do you find them?! Confetti et al only show the hotels brigade which is just not for us.

Any pointers, guidance etc more than welcome!

Not too bothered on location, We live in london, OH from bournemouth, my fmaily in Manchester/Cheshire.Anywhere in and around these locations would be great, but wiling to travel for the holy grail :D

    hi Lynz

    Congrats first.

I wanted to do the same thing and have spent ages looking around for the right thing. Somewhere we can just relax and do what we wanted. I came up with renting a large house in the country for the weekend. We found a great place but too far north for you I think. If you have a look at THIS it might help you, even as a starting point if you want to go that way.

The one we booked in Northumberland will do as much or as little as you want, with overnight accommodation on hand for people who dont want to travel after the party.

We're having our best friends stay the night with us (in their own rooms;) ) so the party can go on as late as we want.

    Best of luck

  • In our search for a venue we came accross the Tythe Barn near Petersfield - which isn't too much of a leg from Bournemouth. It is really pretty (we've been to see it so I can vouch for it) and they let you choose your own florist/caterer/barn or they can come up with a list of suggestions. You can get married in there too as they have a civil license - the thing we weren't so sure about was that they don't have any on site accomodation and as it's fairly in the middle of nowhere that didn't suit us so well.

There are quite a few places like this though - have even seen a village hall!

You didn't say if it was just your reception or ceremony and reception - I found that by checking out the registry office's website which has a list of approved venues which wasn't just confetti's frighteningly priced affairs.

    Hope that helps a bit!

Hiya lynzpower, I think town halls are the way to go! We are having our reception in Salisbury Guildhall (so not too far from Bournemouth), and you can use whoever you want there - no corkage, recommended caterers etc etc. We are buying our own booze and catering for ourselves eek! Website is www.salisburyguildhall.co.uk. They are licenced for ceremonies too (although we're not having ours there) and the hire on the day from 1pm-midnight is £800 (unless it's gone up for next year).

  • My cousin had his wedding in a town hall and he hired his own caterers, bar, dj etc. It was really nice and not too expensive - we have a large family so it was necessary for it not to cost too much,

We hireed a local hall in the summer. We had a very small "secret" wedding and arranged evening do for family etc.

We dressed the hall up so it looked lovely - took time but was worth it. As it didn't have a bar we supplied drink but guests brought their own which averyione was happy with. As most werre familys so made it cheaper for them.

We did the buffett ourselves which saved a fortune!

it was great as we could invite children as well as it was pretty informal - but a great night.

haveing a really good experienced disco also helped non stop dancing for 5 hours!!

    Good luck

I know there are a few village & church halls around Warrington, but I guess you'd need one near a hotel....

Appleton Thorn Village Hall - 5 mins walk from Travelodge and also a 4* hotel (the other way!)
Masonic Lodge - town centre - 5 mins walk from London-Glasgow main line station & 10m walk from Travelodge or Premier Travel Inn (not sure about own drink though)
Winwick Community Centre - 3mins walk from Premier Travel Inn, 5m off M6 & M62

P.S. When's the big day? We've put ours back until 2009 due to the cost of the double glazing!
  • You could try Cripps Barn near Cirencester. They stuff you on the food but I think everything else is down to you
  • We've booked Monk's Barn in Hurley, near Maidenhead, Berkshire.

The barn is an empty shell so you do absolutely everything yourself. I stumbled upon it by accident. Have lived in the area all of my life and never heard of it before!

I can send some more pics if give me your email.
