3 accounts with your bank?

Options
Evening all

I've popped over from the DFW board with a question that I hope someone can answer for me :)

I'm on the start of a VERY long road to be DF and am in the process of setting up a DMP with Payplan. I have today had the confirmation through from Nat West that I have got my new Step Account :T I am determined to handle my money better from now on and what I want to do is open another 2 accounts with Nat West for the following reasons:

Account 1: all my incomings to go into, salary, child & tax credits, child benefit etc.... and my few own personal expenses to go out, mobile phone, pet insurance etc....

Accout 2: the "household account", where ALL household bills will go out of (and where I will transfer a chunk from account 1 each month). My H will also pay his contribution into this account (he also has his own account with Nat West)

Account 3: where I can transfer any 'extra' money, ie the months where we don't have to pay council tax, water rates, money from quidco, ebay money etc.... so it's all in one place and I know it's 'extra' and can be used towards..... well whatever really. First plan for this money would be to pay off the finance from the sofa.

So (if you're still reading and haven't nodded off!), has anyone else done anything like this with Nat West? Do you think they'd let me do this or would they think I'm barking to want to have so many different accounts on the go?!

Many thanks,
Scarlett xx

  • I know LTSB let you do this 3rd account will probably be an instant access savings account call them it wont hurt to ask?
Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?

That would be okay, I'd be happy with that, as long as I could transfer money in and out of it as required :)

Thanks for your reply, am going to call them this morning and if they say it's okay I'll pop to the branch this afternoon :)

  • Scarlett, I have 4 accounts with Natwest.

    1. Step acct for salary & direct debits
    2. Savings acct for extra income from Mystery shopping & surveys etc
    3. Current acct for spending (recently opened)
    4. ISA acct that I do plan to increase savings in

I say do whatever you need to do to control the spending.
  • All sorted :)

Phoned them up this morning and they were able to do it all over the phone, which was great, saved me a trip to the branch. The paperwork is on it's way for me to sign - all done :)

I feel so relieved that I was able to do this. I need to be able to keep it all seperate or I just get a bit confused!

    Thanks all :)
