My 'quiet day' turned into being quietly productive instead. Scanned in yet more paperwork, it just keeps coming. Bank accounts are changing interest rates, there's all the GDPR mailings too, even utility bills. What happened to being a paperless society? Anyway, all scanned in.

Then I sat and scrunched up three carrier bags full of papers from DM which she wanted burnt. Added in my own and then got everything set on fire and turned to ash.

A washing load is out on the whirlygig. I've tidied the utility room and kitchen, had my lunch and now will do some reading. There are things to go into the car but I'll do that tomorrow as it all needs sifting - I took two bags full of stuff out of the old car and not much is actually needed.

I've got a bulb of garlic which has begun to sprout so I'm going to plant it and see what happens. If it survives and grows then great, if it wilts and dies then fine too,
  • Hello from rainy & very cold France & sorry for being missing in action:) but I have been reading along & trying to keep up with the comings & goings :rotfl: & I apologise in advance if I miss anyone :o

Holly, I am very pleased that you are eating healthily :) but I am very sorry that you are feeling stressed out in your own home :( I am hoping that the sunshine comes back so that you can people watch - I really enjoyed what I thought of as ‘Tales from the Park’ authored by HollyHarvey :T. As others have said, please keep your chin up as we have seen how strong you are from your posts :)

TA, I hope you really enjoy your new kitchen & the shelved storage cupboard. I am a little envious that you can store all your appliances etc in one place :o My new kitchen (fitted 3.5 years ago) has the one thing I always wanted - a warming drawer :D how sad am I :rotfl: but I now have NO excuses not to make my own bread :rotfl: Not to boast :D but my Focaccia meets the approval of most of my in-laws & a few members of my family (Italians on my DM’s side so a tough crowd :rotfl:) I really wish you luck on deciphering the operating instructions :) - I can never understand why manufacturers make things so complicated & with so/too many bells & whistles  I hope we get some piccies - puhleeze :):):):)

dp1, so sorry to hear how ill you are feeling & I hope you can get in to see the dr. I think maybe your get up & go has winged its way to my DSis - she has been a Trojan on the decluttering :T I will get her to bring it back to the U.K. & send it back :rotfl:

Red ruby, I hope the kitchen floor gets sorted soon as it is beginning to sound a bit dangerous :(

Lainey, hope you have a lovely break :)

I am sending hugs, positive vibes and ‘get up & go’ to everyone :):)

Here in France we are having some success in selling large pieces of furniture & the odd smaller pieces + all sorts of odd stuff like English/French Linguaphone in a lockable briefcase & an axe :eek: We are here for another three weeks so plenty of time to sell more stuff & then the French dream that my DF & DM started in the early ‘90’s & my DSis joined in 1996 will be over :(
However, as DM & DF are buried here, the area is beautiful & we now have a French ‘family’ - we will be back but we will have to stay in hotels :rotfl: & not the free accommodation of the last 20+ years :rotfl:
Mind you it has taken 8 years to sell the house, gite & land so we are starting on a new chapter - exciting & frightening :)

Anyway, I will sign off as I need to wrap up as it is wet & cold here at the moment :(:(

I love comps, I'm sorry you are having such a tough time at the moment.
My mother rented her flat, but it was hard to get sell / give away everything when she went into the care home, but sadly it must be done. Is there anyone who can help support you, emotionally or with the physical work?

Don't know which is better with my mother, when she doesn't talk or when she says nasty things.

Holly, I hope things are better soon.

The very second I pressed 'submit' the heavens opened for the first rain of the day! So I dashed outside and managed to save the dry washing from a rinsing.

I then went back out to plant the sprouting garlic bulb. In the rain. And then the rain stopped. :rotfl:

Had my main meal of the day and then tackled the job of taking part in the British Gut Project. This is a research project which is analysing the bacterial diversity of British and American guts! Got my sample holder and three pages of instructions out and did it all. Reading and understanding the instructions took much longer than the 'doing' of it. One more thing off the coffee table.

Also did my Co-op voting online - more paper in the blue bag!

Judi - Soldier looks so big now, time does fly.

MrsSD - closing up a loved house is so sad. Keep those memories with you instead.

Silver-Oldie / ILComps - your situations sound so difficult all round. I am so lucky that my very aged DM has all her marbles still and rattles them frequently. The disappearance into dementia is just awful and must sap your strength.

Lainey - have a fab time on your holidays.

My house is now tidy enough for the cleaner tomorrow, I can relax!

Holly could you sit in your local library and read on wet days? (lots of people here do)
  • Gers, thank you for the lovely comment. We have already started reminiscing & before we go we will take loads of photos. Then when winter comes DSis, DH & I can make a photo album - I already have a choice of names ‘The French Connection’ or maybe ‘25 Years in Southwest France’ :rotfl: - I know - plagiarism :D Let us know if the garlic experiment works :) maybe that could be the name :rotfl::rotfl:

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Sunday.

I am so sorry you are so worried about strangers in cars etc . I can't tell you not to worry as it has already happened to you once. Maybe have a list of safe spaces to go with a flask of tea and snacks depending on the weather. Library, shopping mall with lots of seats, free museums and exhibitions or a cheap deal on the cinema
maybe. Once the weather is better maybe parks, country walks or going into a town where free entertainers come round or there are historical features to walk around without paying anything. Maybe volunteer in some way? I wish I could help in some way and hate that you feel vulnerable.

Yesterday dds, sil and dd's bf drove me to the small town near the sea that DH had grown up in and we met his male cousins and shared the news of my first grandchild being due in late July/ early August. DH would have been so excited bless him and I like to think that in some way he was with us.

Today was a lazy day and I have done some online browsing and ordered some new baby size nappies, wet wipes on a special offer and some baby clothes for 12 months and 18 months at a third of the price (or less) in a sale. I am still looking for the baby travel system we all agreed on and want to find the best deal I can if possible .I want to help out as much as I can but don't want to be a pain or be pushy but I am so excited!!

    Hugs to all

Re certain rellies jumping in and grabbing the lot - when my grandmother died, my aunt was in there before you could say "knife" and cleared the place. Car-booted 99% of it. It wouldn't have been so bad but my mother and I had been the ones doing everything while my grandmother was alive; my aunt didn't do diddly for her.

Re photos and memories - I have NO photos of me before I was 42. Not a single one. All I have from before I came to live with Mr LW are some very precious photos of Penny-Dog, one of which is in a frame in the lounge.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
