Credit Card for Car Deposit PCP

Hey all!

Quick on here - can I pay for my deposit (£1,800) on my car finance plan by Credit Card? The dealer in particular is a Ford dealer :)

Thanks!

  • The dealer may well be Ford but it depends who the finance/underwriter is with.

You'll only find out if they take it by asking them directly
  • The finance is also with Ford - is it typically something that customers could do? Regardless or Finance/Dealer, etc?

    Ask the dealer.

From my recent car purchases dealers won't take more than about £500 due to the cost of credit card transactions.

That was in the days when they could charge a fee for accepting a credit card.
From Ford credit support website it states they will take Mastercard and Visa credit cards as a payment to your loan with them but it is not clear whether they will accept it as a deposit.

Do you have the deposit in savings?
If not then you will have a monthly loan payment and a monthly credit card bill to pay - can you easily afford this?
  • So I have a lump sum arriving via cheque (which is in the middle of clearing), but it!!!8217;ll take a week to clear and the dealership wants the deposit by Monday....so it!!!8217;s literally just a short term thing on the credit card!

Don't make them rush you - the car will still be there (despite what they may tell you)next week when the cheque has cleared.
If not order the card online or go to a different dealer.
  • That's because Monday is end of the month and they want to count this sale towards this month numbers. It doesn't mean that you have to agree to be rushed. Unless you agreed to pay by this date and they offered you something for it or higher discount.
