V62 to V5

I was wondering if anyone has had experience re-registering a vehicle?
I own a car who’s previous owner decided to take a cash payout after an accident (yes, it is fully repaired and roadworthy). The car has been purchased from a reputable body shop and the V62 completed and sent away. My question is if anyone knows how long the V5 takes to come back in this circumstance?
I am told that as the previous owner is technically an insurance company it should be much quicker than the 4 - 6 weeks quoted by the DVLA. Has anyone got any experience?

Depends if the previous registered owner has told Dvla they are no longer the keeper.
If they have then @3 weeks.
If not then up to 6.
If you had taken the v62 to the post office they would have been able to tax it if the previous keeper had informed Dvla.0 -
I realised that after I completed the paperwork and sent it away! Getting to a suitable post office around where I am is challenging (all short hours and can’t get away from work).
The body shop said they usually come back in 2 - 4 weeks - so fingers crossed!0 -
Checking if the vehicle is taxed online might give you a clue as to how long.
If it says taxed then I suggest the previous keeper has not informed DVLA.
Similarly if it says untaxed, then gives the last date of a month then the keeper has not informed DVLA and the tax has just run out.
If it gives a date part way through a month then that would indicate they have informed them. Because the tax has been cancelled0 -
Thanks David - never thought of that re: the date. Just checked and it is the 16th of the month - put a smile on my face.
I know the v5 and service history were taken by the insurance company so suspected it was all done properly.0
