Payment Due Date is Today, and Direct Debit date is Today

I'm sure I'm worrying over nothing, but my Nationwide credit card payment due date is today (saturday), and the statement says that the DD will be taken today.

In the small print on the back of the statement, it says that the DD will be taken on the date shown on the statement, or the next working day - but surely the next working day is going to be too late and miss the due date?

I get that with some of my cards. As long as they are in control of the payment there will be no problems and it will be credited on the due date.

Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.

Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.

Same here, if you just wanted to check just give Nationwide a quick call, I am sure they will reassure you that the direct debit has been taken

If you set up direct debit with them then you are fine. Dont bother calling and wasting time. My Asda card is same - direct debit taken right on or just after payment date. They choose when to collect DD not you so you are covered.

I've had my Nationwide CC for 7 years, so in that time the due date should have been on a Saturday or Sunday around 24 times, and the full payment DD has never been a problem. Nationwide are one of the better CCs for their DD timing as unlike some cards they don't take the DD in advance of the due date, so you hang onto your money for longer.

You are correct in your assumption.

One of the benefits of a DD is that it is the recipient's responsibility to take the funds on/by the appropriate date and to make allowances for weekends and bank holidays. As long as funds are in the account you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for all the reassuring replies. I don't know why I'm worried really. It's just that I'm now a day overdue and the money has neither left my current account nor appeared on my credit card account.

So I'm still slightly pooing myself until tomorrow when I'm sure it will all happen :-)

It is normal for the direct debit to be taken on the payment due date.
It is slightly odd for that date to be a weekend but in such cases the direct debit would be taken on the next working day. Don't worry. It's not a trap to cause a late payment.

Just to update on this, as I know you've all been sweating on the answer, I was indeed pooing myself for nothing.

The money disappeared from my current account on the monday following the weekend, but didn't show up on the credit card account until the tuesday. When it did show up, the transaction was dated as though it was received on the due date, so all was good :-)
