BBC iPlayer taking 80%+ of CPU

I had a problem where all my recordings refused to load, so I uninstalled and deleted the huge downloads folder. I've now installed the latest version, which pauses for a second every few, then has periods of slowed motion with speech not quite in sync. I have 5 recordings downloaded but am completely stumped as to why they appear in Task Manager under Apps, you can only play one at a time! This happens when I'm offline, so it's nothing to do with them downloading anything else in the background. It's W10 and RAM is 4GB.

Sounds like a problem decoding the video. It might be trying to do it in software because it doesn't think your PC has a hardware decode?
Try reinstalling the latest version of your graphics drivers. Then reinstall iPlayer
Do you know what graphics chip your PC has?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Just downloaded the latest version (2.5.6) and then downloaded "Have I got news for you" and there's no problems. It sits between 10-12% when playing back smoothly. This is the HD version on Win10 64 bit.0

I once had a similar issue with any video streaming taking up whole CPU and stuttering on a friends HP PC. Different solution that time: McAfee was installed, removed it and enabled the free built-in MS Bitdefender instead, that cured it.0

Ever since launching the 2.0 version there have been many problems with BBC I Player:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/latest-news/v2_update_issues
https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/2266325/new-bbc-iplayer-download-app
Some seem entirely unaffected but many of us are having persistent problems.
The problems are sqaurely the BBCs end IMO and it doesn't look like they are fixing anytime soon.
I gave up with Downloads months ago (fully downloaded shows buffering during playback  ) and now stream in HD with zero problems.0 -

They seem to have put a lot of updates out since 2.0 launched, and I thought the ITV app was bad...0 -

FYI:
have you tried "get-iplayer" ?

Not as fancy as the official BBC iplayer. But you can download and keep recordings longer than the official 30 days, and use your fave media playback app instead.Laters
