Economy energy bill credit refund
I’ve just left economy energy as moved house and tariff. I’ve got a credit balance of about £100 over both fuels - hustvrwnf ans asked for it to be returned and they’ve said it all gets passed to a third party thanks to government legislation to ensure final bills are correct? Never heard of this before so trying to check - ofgem site says contact provider if you have a credit balance?
They’re saying takes 4-6 weeks which seems a long time?

The readings you gave your new supplier are passed over to an independent company for verification. This company then sends your final reading back to your old supplier (so they can close the account) and your new supplier.
The old supplier then has up to 6 weeks to issue a final bill.0 -
How long does it take for them to repay credits following the issue of final bills0

Despite us being in credit based on readings we provided, they ended up sending us corrected bills which meant we owed £100, this took them about 6 weeks to send the bills in the mean time they kept sending us collections letters
Awful company would never touch them again.0 -
The third party advice is a load of rubbish. That's not true at all.
I agree with PennineAcute as that is how it works industry wide.
As for the bills, I'd made sure all the dates and meter readings that they have are correct. If you're able to look at everything on your 'myaccount' online and do your calculations to make sure they are correct. All you really need to do I imagine is to workout what is owed based on your opening and your final meter readings.
If in doubt, make a complaint online or write to them and they will look at it.0 -
Currently all refunds can take up to 8 weeks or even longer.0
