One call insurance

Hi all so I recently had an accident in my car no other vehicles were involved, but I did damage council property I phoned my insurance company to notify them of the incident and told them I didn’t want to make a claim because of there ridiculous excess which was 3k I know I should of paid for attention when I went with them, anyway I decided to contact the council myself to try and resolve it myself so I didn’t have to pay this excess and my premium going up.....since I’ve had no contact with my insurer till today.
They massaged me saying to ring or my policy would be cancelled, I then go on to ring them for them to tell my the under writer will cancelled my policy on the 3rd of May and gave me know explanation apart from it’s because of ya last claim? Where do I stand with this?
Thanks in advane

Did they explain why they are cancelling? (Did they deal with the council claim and have been awaiting payment of your excess??)

(Obviously don't drive unless you get cover elsewhere if this is not resolved - until it is, you do need to disclose to any other insurer you approach that your policy was cancelled by the insurer)
  • You don't normally pay an excess on damage to other cars or property; only if you claim for damage to your own car do you pay an excess. I think it is a legal requirement that insurers cover the full amount of third-party damage as standard.

The mention of a £3000 excess makes me wonder if this is actually one of those awful excess direct policies with a £3k all sections excess that also applies to third party claims.

An insure can't just cancel a policy. They are required to write to you giving notice and explaining why they are cancelling.

It is an Excess Direct Policy, One Call love selling them.

I read so many horror stories about the two companies combined on other forums
  • Recently had a problem with one call breakdown cover. Never had such bad treatment with any other breakdown cover. Not only didn't they come to my rescue on the day I broke down, but due to there mistake ,car was not towed away the day after. I had to pay privately to get vehicle
    Moved.
