Private rental about 8 years ago - what should have been a lovely flat, the whole of the ground floor + extension in a very large grand Victorian house, complete with original flooring in the hall and the staircase (to nowhere!!)

I think when we viewed it we were a bit naive and thought we could tidy it up as it was very run down but we’re getting a “bargain” for the size of the property.

House was a state the day we moved in and well it was all downhill from there. Bear in mind we moved in the November....

Our heating didn’t work, as it it’s a 30+ old boiler , trying to heat the whole of this stupidly large place, the hot water didn’t work, the kitchen extension leaked every time it rained. Our gas and electric bills were £200 a month:eek: and it seemed we were paying the electric and gas for the whole property not just our flat.

Then the noise started, flat above, she dated someone from a local band, so every after party was in said flat, then they started dealing, 3am I’d have people turning up in their dressing gowns banging my front door down to buy drugs because they’d gone to the wrong door

Then the snow came and I cannot describe the cold, we’d have to boil the kettle to wash up and within a few minutes the water was cold. I remember taking something out of the freezer before I went to bed, the next evening it was still sat frozen solid on a plate on my kitchen table.

After 3 weeks of hell the landlord went awol. The agents said the LL managed the property so he had to deal with everything, his phone was disconnected. Overnight a typed letter was shoved through my letterbox “I’m no longer your landlord, I’ve handed the keys back to the bank” and left a phone number for some guy.

Well I gave this poor guy hell, but he tells me the property is nothing to do with the bank, they haven’t formally repossessed and won’t do anything.
No one even seems to want to take my rent!

Over the next 6 weeks or so I call the bank every single day, angry that no one will take any responsibility for this absolute nightmare.

January, the bank finally accept responsibly you for the property and send a gas engineer round - the basically said everything was installed incorrectly and they would report back to the bank.
February we receive a letter from the bank, acknowledging our numerous complaints with the property and agree to terminate the tenancy, but we have a week to move out.

After a lot of negotiation with the manager of the letting agents who rented me this property, we agreed given none of this was our fault they would waive all their fees, and I’ll not pay a deposit for the next place given they already held my last one. So I then had to find another property on their books available immediately.
The house we viewed was ok but tenants weren’t going until a week after the deadline from the bank.
So we packed our stuff and us and every single one of our possessions ended up moving in with family for a week, I remember climbing over my sofa every day in their hallway to get out the front door:rotfl:

We decided at that moment that was it for renting, the next time we move we buy. And we did, stuck it out in the house we found in a massively rush for 3.5 years until the day we picked up the keys to OUR house.

You can’t make this stuff up.

In mine and quite a few other peoples' opinions if you read all the threads he/she has started under numerous aliases.
