Nest - Hive?

I’ve been reading up on Nests & Hives.
I’m sure I read a review on here where someone complained a part of theirs (I think the link between the controller & the boiler, but I could be wrong) stopped working after 18 months and they felt the warranty should cover this as it was unrealistic to expect it to have such a limited life span.
Anyway, my query is, if these parts stop working, does your system stop working or does just the “smart” part stop working?
The boiler breaking down is such a pain that the Nest or Hive would need to be fantastic to make additional break down risks worth it.
Without it switching on and off from the GPS location (which none do), I don’t think it is.

If the smart part stops working you can't control your boiler from your phone etc the boiler would still work.
When my wifi is down, I can't control the boiler from the app, but I can physically switch the heating on by pressing the button at the top of the Hive thermostat.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Like anything there are elements that can fail that will render the set up useless, but that's the same with any heating control. Even the one you have right now!
I have Hive heating and if it failed after 18 months I'm confident I'd end up with either a replacement or a refund. The only question is how many grumpy letters I'd have to write.0
