yes I know government and financial services need you to explain gaps on your CV for their own compliance. As long as not discrimination this can be a reason for rejection.0

If you don't explain, it looks like your hiding something like a spell in prison. You don't get rejected for being unemployed, just for failing to explain that you are unemployed.
Oh yes you do.
Maybe not for minimum wage jobs, but for lots of things long spells of unexplained unemployment (by explained I mean time out with kids or so on) are an immediate binning.0 -
Maybe they have rejected you because there!!!8217;s stronger candidates. They may have experience in the industry or job role and will require less training for the company.
I!!!8217;ve never seen any job application to submit job centre letters. How can they get these letters you say you have.Mortgage free wannabe

Is there anywhere in the application to submit additional information. If so maybe you could say you have spent time volunteering with such and such to develop your skills in what ever skills you have developed. Also explain what tasks you do.Mortgage free wannabe

If they have lots of applicants and are limited for interview time then they will reject candidates for all sorts of reasons. Having a gap on the CV or being long term unemployed will automatically put you below people with current paid experience in the sector. A letter from the job centre won't make the slightest bit of difference.
Volunteering may help but it will depend on what, where and how long for.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Can an employer reject u on grounds of being or having gaps u can’t civer even have job centre letters but still reject u
What does this mean?
As others have said, if you explain gaps on your CV, it is much better than leaving unexplained lengths of time. Volunteering is often considered a positive point, as it shows commitment. It also means that you should have an up-to-date reference, and you can illustrate any skills that you have learned or developed. In my volunteering, I have also gained knowledge and experience of First Aid (updated every three years), safeguarding, basic bookkeeping, and other more general stuff. It's worth noting anything relevant on your CV.0
