Switching from gas water and heating to all electric: feasible idea or not?
Quite a lot of new build flats are electric water and heating only, no gas.
I know they are supposed to be built to a higher standard of energy saving as compared to say, a conversion, but what's cheaper to run for heating and water? Or is there not much difference?
Would it be hugely expensive to remove the gas boiler and radiators where I live and switch to a hot water cylinder and electric radiators?
Fitting a new gas boiler's going to cost me at least £2000 if not more as new pipework's involved (boiler needs to be moved by 8 -10m). It *may* also involve taking up floorboards which are soundproofed so those would need redoing afterwards. I need 3 main radiators or 2 radiators and a wall hung electric heater (one of those contemporary plasma TV lookalike things).
I would have to probably replace the gas hob with convection hob too.
On running costs, the nighttime only option won't work for me as I need heating on and hot water during the day too.
Any thoughts much appreciated.
