When buying saga insurance early on a good quote they have taken the money off the card immediately but the insurance is not due till 22 sn may is this normally usually they say they will take payment when it starts

Most good company's would not take your money till the policy started yes a good qoute. But a month in advance0

Insurance normally gets more expensive the closer you get to the start date
It's not unusual to pay on application rather than start date0
