This is where a broker should be able to help you because they should know which lenders are more lenient and which ones are strict. Although it would be helpful if you found out the real reason for the decline from Nationwide because if the same issue is likely to crop up with another lender, you will be adding another wasted hard search to your files.

I wonder what this senior underwriter didn't like about your file that caused them to decline the application. Hopefully your adviser can get to the bottom of it.

Candyapple - Absolutely, this will be our next move should my mortgage adviser at Nationwide not be able to help us at all. Even if they tell us to take a step back and not dig ourselves into a deeper hole and take steps for damage control to try again in the (hopefully near) future we would find that helpful.

It is just really frustrating as our affordability is all signed off and we have found a house that we absolutely love and the sellers are desperate to get out as they have found a house they love too. Really do not want to let them down, I thought we were passed all of the credit checks/affordability after the DIP and being told that it was alright and signing off all of our documents :(

    Thanks again

The whole mortgage process really needs to be updated and improved, our new mortgage application is with underwriters at the moment, they have received valuation survey on new house.

I don't have any personal advice for your situation per se, but if you are thinking of changing brokers I can highly recommend Prestige Private Finance. They have a lot of experience with such circumstances and consultations are completely free - so you're aren't losing anything by chatting to them.

I hope you didn't register just to advertise them on your first post, Op be mindful and and be ready for lots of PM's now

Crikey, no I didn't. Sorry to have caused offense to anyone. Everyone has to have a first post but in hindsight I should have realised. Apologies!
