Can anyone advise how notice is worked out please? My contract says 'a month'. So if I handed my notice in on 23rd April, when should I expect my last day to be?
Thanks in advance.:)

I'd say 22nd May - a calendar month later.0

My wife recently handed her notice in. It was 1 calendar month.
She handed in her notice on 12th March, her last day was 12th April.0 -

Last day would probably be 23rd May, unless there's more to your contract than you've quoted - the question is when the month starts. I say that because I had a role with a 3 month notice period, but those three months began the following Monday from the day you told them you were resigning. It meant that everyone left on a Friday, but also that you could be working nearly a week longer than you'd hope.
Best thing would be to agree/confirm a date with your employer rather than randoms off the internet - play it nicely and they might even agree to you leaving the previous Friday....0
