How is notice worked out?

Can anyone advise how notice is worked out please? My contract says 'a month'. So if I handed my notice in on 23rd April, when should I expect my last day to be?
Thanks in advance.:)

    I'd say 22nd May - a calendar month later.

My wife recently handed her notice in. It was 1 calendar month.

She handed in her notice on 12th March, her last day was 12th April.

Notice will start the day after you hand it in. So 24 April to 23 May which will be the last day.

A month notice is not the same as 4 weeks notice, except February in a non Leap Year.

If notice is handed in on the 23rd the clock normally starts the following day. That would mean final day would be 23rd May.

Last day would probably be 23rd May, unless there's more to your contract than you've quoted - the question is when the month starts. I say that because I had a role with a 3 month notice period, but those three months began the following Monday from the day you told them you were resigning. It meant that everyone left on a Friday, but also that you could be working nearly a week longer than you'd hope.

Best thing would be to agree/confirm a date with your employer rather than randoms off the internet - play it nicely and they might even agree to you leaving the previous Friday....
