Barclays Premier Account

My wife has just had a letter inviting her to apply for a premier account with Barclays. She fulfills the criteria by earning more than £75000 and having it paid into her current account. I, however, pay nothing in and, since this is a joint account, I'm wondering what that would mean for me. I've had a quick gargle :D but I can't find anything relative.
Is anyone familiar with this scenario? Thanks.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Avoid Barclays and try a better bank.

If it's a joint account being upgraded to Premier, both parties will be Premier for all intents and purposes even if only one is meeting the criteria.

Benefits of Premier include a UK call centre, option to have a relationship manager, (slightly!) preferential Bond interest rates (2.02% on a 3-year fix is the headline rate), different underwriters on loans and mortgages, and access to the Premier Rewards App - free daily coffee from Patisserie Valerie, English Heritage membership, etc.
    : )

Since it's free, i'd take it.

However, remember they are there to sell you more Barclays stuff that is almost always poor value (even the Premier stuff)

Also, they'll quickly convert you back to pleb status should you not fit their criteria e.g. change of job or retirement.

Yes, that was my thinking. You say you'd join it as it's free, but I envision even more emails, texts and junk through the door. We really have no need of any of the stuff on offer, so I think I'll advise wifey to pass, for now at least.

Good decision to avoid the No-Go-To bank !:D:rotfl:
  • I have a premier account and don't get hassled by Barclays. Fee free overdraft of £1000. I just got the account for this.

Couple of years ago I got sent a Premier cheque book yet I am a pleb.

I don't think Barclays is that bad, staff at my local branch refer to me as Mr XXX. I left Halifax because they had miserable staff. My main bank is Lloyds and they are also ok. (yes I know Halifax is owned by Lloyds.)

I have been a Premier customer for a while. They send you a nice newsletter every so often (not too often) with some suggestion/investment ideas but you could bin it without second thoughts. Customer service has been quicker and better when calling from the app as it goes straight through the premier route, I got few bottles of free wines from Majestic every so often and I do enjoy the free coffee and other perks, all for free. So I would not pass it. I do have other accounts too for all other benefits so having this would not preclude you to have other accounts too.
