Permanent health insurance is the correct generic name for income protection.
I comes in three levels generally. Budget, standard and comprehensive. There are no standard requirements for each level. Most providers issue three levels so you get a rough idea but each will have pros and cons.
Some providers target certain occupation classes and age groups (as well as premium sizes and a few other things) so there is no way to tell which one will be best for you.
Internet coverage on PHI is weak as the plan falls under both protection class and investment class and many internet sites are protection only so wont show the investment class plans. Plus, the admin is typically higher on PHI policies and they are fairly low profit which isnt the sort of business internet sites typically aim for. You also have the issue that a number of the better providers dont provide their quotes via quote portals and require manual requests for figures.
So, whilst things like house insurance, car insurance and life assurance are relatively easy to source online, PHI is a bit of a pain.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
