Recovering deleted pictures from Digi camera

I've deleted pictures from my digital camera and my memory stick has packed up with no backed up copies I'm desperate to retrieve some lost data, is there any good software for free or how much is it likley to cost to get it done from a professional (do photo shops like Kodak provide that service)
