just had an interesting phone call!

Hi there
I just had a phone call from a company call creditfix
they spent half an hour trying to convince me that i should enter into an iva or trust deed as my credit was so bad i was about to be forced into bankruptcy by my creditors!!!!!
I was told that this was not going to cost anything...but when i asked a bit more i was told that i would have to remortgage my house in 2 years an release 75% of my equity to them to clear the debts.
I was amazed how pushy they were and couldnt believe they could try to put the fear of god into me.
If i didnt know about this website i would have believed them
If anyone else gets a call from them hang up immediately.... i only let them ramble on as i knew they were full of it and wanted to see how far they were willing to go
I MAY HAVE NOTHING.....BUT ITS MY NOTHING

The words 'Barge Pole', Ten Foot' and Don't Touch Them With' spring to mind sp.
If you are having financial problems ALWAYS talk to one of the Debt Counselling Charities, such as CAB, National Debtline - 0808 808 4000 - or Scottish Debtline (the Scottish Branch of CCCS) http://www.scottishdebtline.co.uk

Their advice is Confidential, Impartial and Free. If they feel that an IVA or Trust Deed is the most suitable solution for you, they would certainly point you in the direction of a 'reputable' Insolvency Practitioner.

Leave the Scavengers to look elsewhere for their prey.

You mean they are cold calling people ? Jeez....

I can imagine this would seriously scare some older or less MSE-aware individuals. Surely it can't be legal that they can operate in this way?

  • They were called Creditfix and it came up on my caller id as international.
the people I spoke to had Irish accents and when they talked about other members of their team they were all women. The woman that was quizzing me gave me an 0800 number to call if i ever changed my mind.

    Sounds like these people

    www.creditfixpersonal.com

Lots of stuff on their website is meaningless. IE It says they have principals with 50 years experience of sorting out debts. That could be the 50 people they hired last year or one guy who has been struggling with his own debts for 50 years. It doesn't mean anything.

They have a case studies page that only talks about IVA's and trustdeeds with spectacular figures for reductions in outgoings. Where are the case studies of their successfull debt management clients?

And its definately a paid for service, but I didn't notice any details of their charges prominently displayed. To be fair I didn't read their entire site.

I wonder who sold your name to them as having bad credit?

In Scotland if you are in a debt management plan through a registered money advisor from the council you are put on the Debt Arrangemnt Scheme list and this protect you from bankruptcy, as long as you pay what has been worked out with you no one can make you bankrupt.

These type of companies catch people who are worried and don't know what to do and they agree to everything. If you then can't make the payments they make you bankrupt for the amount of the fee they have lost by you not keeping up with the agreement.

I've just read this thread and its funny really as only in the last 2 weeks we have had an 0845 number ringing our house daily. On the couple of occasions I've answered, its been a similar company too.

The first time it was a foreign sounding bloke who tried telling me the owner of the line had requested they call, when I asked who they wanted, the name was totally different to ours! He explained that their system was down, and maybe the names had got mixed up, but we had definately requested a call from them.

He went on to tell me how he would consolidate all our debts, so we could afford to live again, and got told in no uncertain terms where to go. Despite asking him to take our number off the system, we keep getting phone calls.

How they got the number I don't know as its ex directory, we never give it out, and we've only lived here a few weeks!
