    You could always be pragmatic.
A ends the tenancy via a letter.
B&C at the same time inform the landlord that they will be leaving in 2 months time.
LL might be unhappy with this but since they have to give you 2 months notice to vacate, B&C will be gone before anything can be done.

A's notice is accepted for the joint tenancy.
B and C stay on regardless making the joint tenants (including A) liable to double rent under the Distress Rent Act.
B and C disappear abroad so the L (pragmatically) decides to peruse the remaining joint tenant (A) for all outstanding costs.

It either needs to be done properly or all three need to leave.

I agree and recognise that technically is a risk for her as there is no contract between her and person taking her place (tenants boyfriend), but we are friends and its an agreement between friends and can assure 100% that that will not happen. Will even pay her a month in advance and if she does not get her advance rent can terminate the contract at that point.
With the best will in the world, and I completely understand and accept that right now you wholeheartedly believe this, you would be surprised and disappointed to find out the myriad ways in which the real world can and will drive a coach and horses through such a notion.

Fixed term ends at start of June, so A cannnot "ends the tenancy via a letter."

At least not until the subsequent peiodic starts in June. A could then serve the appropriate notice to end the periodic.
