Then opened a Item not as described stating, wrong colour / Y colour (description is X).

That reads to me like they were expecting X but they think the actual item is Y (not saying that's true, but that is what they are claiming)

Yes, thanks it does look like that - you had me thinking on that comment, but on reading their message again,

they expected Y, but received X (and admitted they received X !!!) which is in the title, item specifics and description.

The Y is a figment of their imagination, which is why I'm so mad.

Your OP implies that the Y was in the photograph of the item you offered for sale:
As title, received message opening a SNAD case from buyer requesting return (private seller) on the basis that photo shade and description does not match item

If so, in future you should ensure that the photographs of your items are consistent with your descriptions of the items. Otherwise, your photographs will continue to mislead bidders.

Got through to CS - they advise any item/case opened as INAD, the seller must accept return and pay for return postage, no matter whether described correctly or not. Then appeal.

Trying to word a question without sounding cheeky.

Were you expecting to receive Y or X shade?

That would then lead onto the fact -
    a) why would you buy Y when there is NO mention of Y anywhere in the Main Title, Item Specifics and Main Description?
    or
    b) X - that would mean described correctly, as X is in the Main Title, Item Specifics and Main Description.
There's no point engaging if they're already angry.

How much is the return postage? It seems like it would be easier to finish it without giving yourself continued aggravation.

My usual way of dealing in a similar situation (you're past most of these options) is to calmly say that I was sorry the buyer didn't get what they had hoped for but unfortunately I had described it as x and not y as they expected. I would then ask if they would be willing to accept a small part refund as a matter of goodwill to keep the item.

If they say no, I'd then ask what they'd like me to do bearing in mind I'm not at fault. Most of the time you end up with a compromise that isn't too painful. Rarely you'll get someone who is impossible to deal with no matter what. In that case it's easier to just get rid as soon as possible. In some of those cases I've just refunded and said don't bother returning. The latter would, obviously, depend on how much is involved.

Update - received message asking for address and informing me will be returned via Myhermes, only trouble is 1 hour to go before ebay steps in as 8 days up at midnight to resolve.

Not sure if I need to still accept the return, or what ??

Personally I do think they knew, they received the exact item in the photos, and it was described exactly.

Can't help thinking though, this message could be a ploy, fooling me into thinking they have agreed to return and paying postage, then they will escalate as per their nasty message.

Can I accept return and not send them a label ?? that way I have replied.

I think you are lucky as it sounds as tho` they got inpatient as if they had waited another day they could have got free postage and also the postage credited to their account.

Try not to let it get to you. I know how hard it is but just refund her the item and move on( and block her)

There is nothing to say that they still can't escalate though, that message barely inconveniences the buyer at all as the case is still open. I see absolutely nothing here to say that ebay have agreed that seller doesn't have to accept the return.

If buyer is gambling on the OP thinking that's the end of it then they could be playing a clever game.OP now ignores dispute, ebay close it in buyer's favour and refunds before return. Then OP is left with no money and no item and will be hunting round for a method of getting the dress back from an un cooperative buyer.

You may see this as reassuring, I see it as a ploy to get the dress and the money as seller has not taken previous advice about supplying a label to get dress back and unless ebay close the dispute in their favour , could now lose everything - including of course he FVFs, plus they get a defect.

It might already be too late, but unless OP has any thing from ebay saying they will find in his favour- to get the dispute closed by sending a label immediately via the system.

It is a ploy and unfortunately you are likely to be the loser here. If the case is a SNAD as you state earlier in thread then the only option you should see in your dispute console is to prove that you have sent a label for return, send a label through the ebay system, or refund without return.

Mrs does cake toppers and (seemingly) regularly gets I want to return the item as its not a glossy photo(its on an icing sheet) or arrived after my son/daughters birthday (not their fault that they left it til last second and then paid for second class of course) etc.
The majority either accept that she doesn't bring them to their house personally or even get bombed off by ebay CS. The remaining ones get the ebay shipping label with the promise that once items been returned unopened they'll get a refund via e-cheque.
It amazing how many folk cant be bothered taking the topper to the post office and the case is closed in her favour.

Wow !!! wasn't really expecting that. I honestly thought they realised that they had no case, as what was photo'd and described is what they received, but 6th sense kicked in.

After receiving their message to send return address late last night I sent a message asking them to close return case, and to confirm that we had worked out a solution amicably, when I didn't receive a reply. I done what I could only do - accepted the return and ticked the box for a label to be sent to them via ebay. On a plus note I was expecting the postage label to be a lot more than ebay said it would be :)

    Wow !! Thanks everyone.
