UPVC or Composite front door?

The composite door market is all b.s over hyped nonsense, nobody wants to pay over a grand for one door and that is why you get all this hype about security.
Most break-ins through doors are by lock- snapping or bumping, you can help prevent this by installing a Diamond standard cylinder on your pvc door.Enjoy everyday like it's your last!0 -
I wouldn't be scared off by security hype around upvc doors, every house in my street has one as a front door, they are great for keeping out the weather, the fact is an intruder is not going to even try a front door when they can try the back without being seen, not to mention the noise that kicking in a upvc door would cause.
Although they can take a bit of maintaining, don't look past wooden doors, i've had mine for aroung 25 years and according to it's condition it might be good for another 25.
Unfortunately doors follow the trend with cars, consumer appliances, new homes and so much else - they "don't make em like they used to". Your 25 year old door stands a good chance of being a proper UK made door unlike the dross flooding the market today from the Far East. This dross has driven decent door manufacturers out of business and allowed the composite poor quality market a foothold.
I have three external, modern, (Far East manufactured) fitted internally in my home. To the untrained eye they look fine, but the quality is woeful and they would not last twelve months if fitted externally - which is where they are supposed to be fit for. These doors were not cheap and they were specifically sourced through the building trade for my home. Which means they are the cream of the dross - most doors are vastly inferior!
Energy efficiency does come into matters, and here the composites have a plus marking. However in terms of strength, and security, a UK made timber external door of say 30 years ago is light years ahead of a modern composite door.0 -
Thanks everyone for the input. Very helpful.0

Or go to someone who charges resonable prioces for doors.
My compsite was under £500, just over inclusing fitting.
There are also many companies out there that will change over a grand for UPVC if you'll let them.
Also I did not got for the cheapest composite door by quite a way.
Research your suppliers.0 -

It would be interesting for all mse folks to know the manufacturer, fitter and approx location. andrea is posting today about her faulty Rockdoor and paid £1200. That is an extortionate price but yours is the opposite of this.0
