Boiler fault

Hi everyone

I had no hot water coming out and a plumber came around and said there is an A1 warning light on it.

He rang this morning and said he'd spoken to Anniston engineers and the problem needs a new circuit board at a cost of £260 and fitting costs.

Can anyone confirm for me this sounds reasonable and I have no reason not to believe him except I've never used him before and he wants payment up front . I have no problem with paying but am nervous of needing to check with other people as to what's wrong .

Many thanks

Have you looked in the manual for this code?
If you don't have a manual can you download one?
    63 mortgage payments to go.

What model of boiler is it?

A generic google search for A1 boiler error shows all sorts of possibilities including frozen/blocked condensate pipe (frozen unlikely in this weather though)
Worcester Bosch A1 error could be little or no water in the system.
  • I don't have it i'm afraid but it did have water coming out about a month ago and that was fixed but that plumber can't come out quickly. This new guy said it could be anything from no water through to needing a new boiler ( its 10yrs old now and he says that is old as new boilers aren't made like those that lasted 30 yrs ago )
  • It's an Ariston RS 24HR

This says it's either a part at £3.20 or 99% it's the PCB

  • Thankyou all, the circuit board was changed and seems to have cured the problem for the moment.

I have put aside the money for a new boiler as it is old and I can't imagine it going on forever.
