Yes I really don't understand why my car insurance is so much. I have been driving for almost 8 years. My car insurance is up for renewal in July and I have just checked it should reduce to around £60 per month! :)

Landline? I wouldn't use a landline, do I still need this?

How are you accessing the internet? You need a landline unless you are using Virgin or something like mobile broadband. However your £40 budget for this should be more than enough.

Is that renewal based on your new address?

Also, don't forget cashback sites when you take out utilities/insurance etc.

Are you also splitting groceries? £400 is high for two people and one dog.

Council tax is normally included in rent (or it was every place we have rented if I remember correctly)

You can join dogs trust for £25 per year that gives you £1m 3d party liability (and any profit they make goes to the dogs they rescue/help)

My biggest worry if I were you would be this: you ran up debts when you were living with your parents yet expect to be able to pay your way in rented accommodation. I'm not saying it can't be done, but you will have to track your purchases carefully and DON'T buy anything unnecessary. Consider something like YNAB to help you budget.

If you've been paying so little board, why don't you have any savings? Where has your money been going up to now?

Some LLs may but it's not the common thing unless it's a HMO.

Do you change insurance companies each year? If you stay with the same company they will overcharge you. Loyalty really doesn't pay when it comes to insurance (or utilities)

mije1983 - Ah ok i've never dealt with household bills before so I wasn't sure, but if the £40 budget should cover it then that's ok. I've checked my car insurance at the new address, I'm not sure if its the address thats made the difference or that fact I'll be 25. either way its a bonus!!

Lrimas - Yes £200 each, I thought that was quite good as I usually spend around £300 a month on groceries and that's just for me! However I can meal plan properly when we are living together and do a weekly shop. I go food shopping everyday at the moment!! :(

I have checked and council tax isn't included in our rent unfortunately.

I ran up those debts when I was living with my ex partner, it was for furniture mainly. However I will not be using credit cards in future!!

I am planning to budget every month and sticking to it.

Violalass - I have saved a little bit (Not a lot) but my money has mainly been going on holidays, days out, meals etc etc. I always say you only live once!

Also I moved out when I was really young, had a messy breakup and then moved back in with my mum a year ago.. So i've just been enjoying myself since
