Pay for searches on house?

Just getting some conveyancing quotes on a house purchase and the solicitor asked me if I wanted to have the searches done as I'm a cash buyer. Apparently, some people save themselves some money by not having them Never come across this before. Any advice?

How well do you know the area? I have bought cash and not done the searches, reason being I know the area and have bought a few houses a few roads away... What is the point of searches when they will come back with the same thing...
You may want to find out where the sewerage goes as that could effect and extension plans. You should be able to look up in the council for any planning permission in the area.
Mortgage companies insist on all the searches but as you are a cash buyer it is your choice.0 -
