Is it apple or just me VPN abroad

I have a vpn at home on my ASUS router, I can watch BBC (and have a license) on my phone (android)using openvpn via my home router, but via my iPad it says not available in your location? Now I really want to know is it apple or me missing a setting?
I am not a fanboi but watching on a 5 in screen rather 9 in one is annoying. Any ideas? Oh and both are using the same wifi

The OpenVPN server I run on my Asus router is mostly to allow me to access the local network and it works fine for that but there are options in the Asus advanced settings which will force requests other than to the home local network to be routed over the VPN. The client needs to honour the "Direct clients to redirect Internet traffic" option setting on your router.

I'm away from home and I've just checked mine out and it works for Android and Windows just fine - a "what is my IP" in google with the connection active shows my home IP in both. If it works on Android then your router must be set correctly but no harm confirming that by checking the router setting and what IP is shown on Android with the connection active. Assuming that is all OK then you need to look at the settings on your iPad client.

I'm assuming you are away from home when you say both are using the same WiFi.

I found this about openvpn not working correctly on IOS https://forums.openvpn.net/viewtopic.php?t=22737 - the answer there is only what I suggested but if it's working on Android the router setting must be correct. There are others saying pretty much the same thing.

I wondered if there was any option in the ovpn but after looking in mine there is nothing obvious at all. Just
    remote <my home ip> 1194 (I have a fixed ip)
    float
    nobind
    proto udp
    dev tun
    sndbuf 0
    rcvbuf 0
    keepalive 15 60
    comp-lzo adaptive
    auth-user-pass
    client
    auth SHA1
    ns-cert-type server

followed by the certificates and key so it must be the server setting and handshake that determines this.

    =====

You might want to try adding

    gateway-redirect def1

in your ovpn for the ipad

Impossible to resolve hostnames using the DNS set in the VPN configuration
Another reported issue is about the DNS set set in the VPN profile (or pushed by the server) not being used. A common symptoms of this problem is that local hostnames, those normally resolved by your own DNS, won't be resolved.
This problem is caused by a longstanding bug in the Apple API which will be addressed in our next release (v1.2.6). For the time being, there is a known workaround which consists in routing all the traffic through the VPN. It is possible to achieve that by adding the following statement to the client configuration:

Thanks kiwikiller:cool: set the router to instruct the clients(ASUS DSL-AC68U) Direct clients to redirect Internet traffic) and voila it seems ok. The profile never changed:eek:
Works ok in the uk ergo it should in foreign parts

Many vpns allow more than one user account, so can support a vpn client on something else.

Me, I carry my vpn account. pw and installation software for devices on a usb stick, just in case.

I have no experience of Apple devices, or your vpn provider, so will stop there :)

Good choice, my VPN provider is my home router, and my iPad doesn't have a USB port :D
