Old Style Daily Sunday 22nd April 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning all.
Thank Holly for the thread. I'm up early to take my friend to the airport, it's a two and a half hour drive. The road was closed because of a fatal accident from about 2.30pm yesterday until 3.00am this morning. I've been restless and anxious as the diversion is 66 miles long.
I hope everyone is doing fine. Happy Sunday.0 -
Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. Poor you, I can well imagine your feeling of panic when you spotted that car nearby.
Well we never got the promised heavy overnight rain unfortunately. So the drive etc is still coated in dust and sawdust.
I am feeling more myself today and thank you all so much for the virtual hugs yesterday. It was lovely to feel so many people actually cared how I was feeling. I think I had let everything going on overwhelm me and I couldn't shake it off.
Yesterday morning the kitchen man appeared at 8.15 and 2 hours later I had a sink with running water!! That alone lifted my spirits a lot. Of course it kicked up even more dust etc to add to the already thick coating everywhere! I love my new sink too! It's black granite and sits really nicely in the dark oak worktop. And no more trailing mucky pots etc up and down the stairs to the bathroom is the cherry on top!
DD talked me into going over to the caravan site with them "just to enjoy the peace and sitting in the sunshine" and I hadn't to even think about helping. Mr TA said he would stay here and enjoy sitting out in the sun with no workmen banging and generally making a racket. It was hard work for the lads uncovering the van, decking, table etc in the heat but they cracked on regardless and got the awning up as planned. The girls loved being back at the site and were off and away playing with the friends they haven't seen since last season. Eldest had her nose in a book the whole time! All the stuff stored inside the van is still in there and me and DD may go over one day this week to start sorting that out. Depends how the kitchen progresses!
Today I must change the bed, even though I can't wash the bedding until the washer is back in situ! I also plan a sm trip this morning as stocks are looking low in the fridge of dairy etc. And as much as I hate buying ready meals a few may go on the list as a change from the usual microwave stuff I am making. I can't wait to have a working cooker and hob and get back to some sensible meal making!
I am waffling so have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all those needing/wanting them. It seems as though we have a few hay fever sufferers on here. SNOOZER my fingers are well and truly crossed for your DD and her treatment. Take care all xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly.
I too have had a restless night, first it was too hot and then the thunder, lightning and rain started up! Finally gave in and got up just after 5 by which time the storm had finished. Little dog and I have been for a walk around the field, the bird feeders have been topped up and I am now enjoying a well earned cuppa whilst enjoying the beautiful sunny morning, DOH is still snoring in the bed
Not too much on the agenda for today, my herb pots all need sorting and the gravel which they stand on could do with weeding out, other than that have a few programmes to catch up on and there is always my book. I picked up one of the A Cleeves, Vera Stanhope ones and have to say it’s very good, I do hear Brenda Blethyn voice every time she speaks though!
Right, time for another cuppa as mine has gone cold, have a good day everyone x0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Holly
We didn't get the promised storm, so I will have to water the garden today. I covered some newly planted seeds so they didn't get washed away, first job will be to take the glass off.
We visited mother yesterday, she still isn't talking to us. I wonder if she is just too tired, her body is just 'worn out'. I'll phone the care home later this morning.
Not much planned
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Post eaten by Internet.
Morning all!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all,
By 9pm last night there was no sign of the weather guess rain (it's only just started) so I watered my flower pots, baby plants and re-potted seedlings. There's still some garden jobs to be done like trimming all the over hanging ivy from one side and over hanging trees from another but the weeding and grass cutting is done for this week. The shed and fence also need treating but it was a race against the weather yesterday so there wasn't time.
I picked another 2 lbs of rhubarb. Some will go next door and some will stay here and be cooked ready to eat as breakfast with yogurt, yum. I managed to get my raspberry canes in too. I evicted the biggest spider that I've ever seen from the shed and then the cats thoughtfully checked for me to make sure there weren't any more.
Mrs TA I'm glad that your kitchen is starting to be a kitchen again.
JackieO I hope your travels went well yesterday and that you're taking it easy today.
Gers I'd have a nana nap when you get back if I were you. That or a very early night.
Take care all of you0 -
TA, I'm glad you're feeling brighter.
Holly, I don't blame you for feeling nervous after the horrid treatment you had from the so-called professionals. Even a layperson like me could see that the way they behaved would affect someone struggling with MH issues for the worse.
I was woken by torrential rain in the early hours but I'd had a poor night anyway, lots of aches and pains especially in my ankle, which is a new one on me, kept me awake. Then when I did fall asleep I was woken by heartburn and then the rain!
We spent the day at DS' where I was weeding. They have a lovely garden and are really getting into taking care of it but I really think they will have to find some help otherwise it will overwhelm them. It's lovely to see how happy they are in the house though, it really is their dream family home.
DD rang to tell us that Ziggy rolled in a dead hedgehog yesterday which was a bit unfortunate because we forgot to take her shampoo back with us.
I think I will do some weeding in our own garden today but maybe try not to kneel on the ankle that was so painful last night.0 -
Morning All
After yesterday's glorious weather we are back to rain, ah well.
I spent a lovely afternoon with DS1, his new house is really nice and we sorted the garden - he cut the grass and I trimmed some of the potted plants. It's in a nice quiet area with lots of families which will be ideal when he has the children. He cooked a meal too, lovely to have a meal cooked for me!
I got home about 9pm (it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get home) and rescued the remaining washing, it was a bit damp but was fine this morning for folding and putting away.
Hope you managed to get your visitor back to the airport Gers, not a good day for driving.
Glad there's progress TA. Could your DD take some of your washing?
I have to go and look for some new work trousers this morning, mine are a little baggy!
Have a good Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Morning
Really ominous looking here today looks like the promised rain is about to hit cant complain though we have had a few good days and I managed to change my hue from shiny marble to slightly beige
No hosework done yesterday due to the weather so today I will do some commercial break cleaning as I declutter the planner nothing too stressful though you understand.
Sunday brunch first though and I might do some bacon and egg butties to accompany.
Managed to set my grill pan on fire last with some burger fat, fortunately remembered some common sense and didn't open the oven to fan the flames just switched it all off and let it run out of oxygen ....amazingly the burger was still fine with a very authentic smoky flavour lol. Back to HM burgers for me thats never happened with those. Saying that Im now yearning for a smoker in the garden
TA I love your sink I have a picture of it in my mind and it looks gorgeoushope your planning a chilled day today and trust me the bedding can wait ...speaking as a bedding leaving expert of course
Holl Im not surprised you were spooked how dreadful to be scared in your own home
silver-oldie big hugs love I hope she realises how upseting that is for you x
Right off to watch the gorgeous sting and shaggy on Brunchoh and its now chucking it down
Have a great day all0 -
Morning all
Its a cracking day here again, we have been very lucky this weekend with the weather. We sat in the garden yesterday evening and had a bbq which was lovely, we were sitting and chatting for ages and having a glass of wine, we had just bought the last dish indoors when the heavens opened it was really torrential rain, next door were not so lucky and we heard shrieks as they ran for cover :rotfl:
DD is hovering upstairs and her boyf is cleaning the bathroom, OH and I will tackle down here when he gets back from the boot sale, there is not too much to do just a general tidy and a hoover and mop through.
Dinner tonight will be jacket spuds with quiche and various salads, I made hm coleslaw last night which was so much tastier than the shop stuff, and I made a tomato and onion salad with truffle oil and balsamic vinegar, it was lovely.
Will take madam out for another long walk today, she went for miles with OH yesterday, she seems impossible to wear out !
Right better get on have good days all xx0
