Money Supermarket mis sold British Gas Tariff

I signed up for a British Gas tariff which was advertised on Money Supermarket - fixed for 13 months and free boiler care. Switch went through ok but no sign of boiler care, online chats / calls / emails to BG over last few weeks and no joy so raised a complaint and told today I am not on a fixed tariff, don’t have boiler care and am on the standard variable rate. Annoyed!! I have proof from money supermarket of tariff I signed up to but BG say not their problem and have closed complaint. Wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this?

I am not sure that a referral site can actually mis-sell anything. It clearly has a duty to reflect accurately all the details of the offer but the contract is between the consumer and the energy supplier. The energy supplier provides a Welcome (contract) Letter which should contain all the relevant details and, as a consumer, you have a 14 day 'cooling off' period.

That said, the referral/switching relationship between MSE and BG does seem to be broken in places at the moment as you are not alone in having problems.

You need to get Money Supermarket to act on your behalf, then British Gas will honour it.
