Am confused by Barclays new Pin Sentry system

My husband and I have both been given separate membership numbers for our joint Barclays internet banking account, and I've been given a new five figure code number. My husband has been sent a pin card reader. I haven't. Yet today, when I went online to pay money into another internet savings account elsewhere for the first time, which wasn't set up on my internet banking system, I did it without any problems, and without having to use the pin sentry system. I thought the whole point of these new arrangements was that you had to use the pin sentry when making online payments to a new person/institution. Is anybody else experiencing anomalies with this new system?

think it becomes compulsory from november look around barclays website, i'm sure thats where i saw it0
