No MPRN for gas metre

Hi. Just signed a tenancy for a flat. Tried to organise gas and electric but my gas metre has no MPRN and the company could not find the address on the national database. I was told to call the national grid. Got a rather rude man telling me the address doesn't exist!?! He said I had to choose a supplier and they need to create an address for the national grid and get an MPRN from 'so serve'.

Has anyone else had this issue. This is my first time moving and have no clue what is going on. Energy supplier is due to call me next week but don't want to be going round in circles.

Thank you.

    Pedant warning ... it's a meter not a metre! ;):D

You need an existing bill first, then contact the current supply company to get MPRN
Maybe meter serial number would help you/them???

Maybe the landlord or the previous tenant has a previous bill and could help you.
Make sure you have written down the meter readings on the date you moved in.

If National Grid says your address does not exist it could be that the supply was never registered. Do as they say, contact any supplier and they can arrange for an MPRN to be set up.
