    Are you sure it's not just that the smell is affecting your sense of taste? WD40 has quite a sickly scent and if you're smelling it around the house it wouldn't be surprising if something tasteless like water acquired the taste through your nose.

    I'd agree with you. Mineral oils could potentially do nasty things to the plastic and rubber components of the foul water drains, especially the cheap quality toilet pan connectors people often have. It could get very messy. WD40 is said to be safe to use on plastic and rubber, but I wouldn't want to put that to the test.

    It is also a very bad idea to put anything flammable down drains.
