Are you sure that one or both of you do not have a hearing problem, and so to compensate, you shout at each other, disturbing the neighbour's peace. Now the neighbours now have had enough, and want to be unsubtle.

you couldnt be further from the truth. We both have great hearing and are very private people, so talk quietly to each other anyway, before this started happening. We hate noise, so are quiet all the time. We cant stand loud neighbours

Write notes to each other for two days in a row, no speaking at all .... and put the notes in the bin. Might as well check if she's going through your bins too :)

Perhaps discuss specific, interesting things in particular rooms, and see which one(s) get picked up. If it's only things in the lounge they hear, that suggests it's just that boundary wall that's an issue. If they also know about things from other rooms, that's a bit more intriguing.

We will try that, but there cant be anything wrong with the boundary wall its a 1930's semi and the walls are thick, and solid (we found out when drilling to hang the TV)

    Its so so confusing

Pay for a bug sweeping service to come in and check the house?

Obviously, don't talk about in the house beforehand otherwise the neighbours will know they are coming!

Not too sure if thats a funny comment or a serious one? (not trying to offend, genuine question)

Are there such companies, other than those used by the Police and government? :o

First thing that jumped into my head is do you have a chimney stack that runs through the center of the house?

If it's covered (or uncovered) on either side you may find the sound carries through it very well (regardless of the rest of the building construction).

I used to live in an Old semi and the neighbours could be heard very clearly in my bedroom when they were in the lounge (i couldn't hear them when i was in the lounge).

It was from an old fireplace that was boarded up on my side but open and "ornamental" on theirs.

Yes, we do actually. Its partially open on our side as we fitted a decorative fireplace last year, unsure of whats their side. Thing is we can hear them arguing and screaming at each other when we sit in the lounge but its muffled, so i doubt they'd be able to hear us talking quietly in our lounge?? (We know they're screaming at each other in the adjoining lounge as if you go out our back door their door is often open and you can tell where they are

Download the audio book of Fifty Shades of Grey. That should give her something to talk about. :rotfl:

This is worth trying - perhaps have some written notes on hand so that you remember which rooms which subjects are to be discussed in?

I'd also be tempted to have some fun with them - I'm sure you could think of some subjects that would wind them up.
