My oldest son is 9(nearly 10) & still believes in Santa, well hes good at pretending if he doesnt.
Last year we had a few questions but i always said well who brings your stockings then?? I even caught a pic of santa sneaking up the stairs with the presents a couple of years ago & he often comments on how he knows he is real because Mummys met him.
We don't have the probelm of the children asking santa for expensive presents because santa only brings the childrens stockings & possibly a small token present as his way of saying thankyou for being good that year. We love the children more than a strange man so why would he get the children something more than Mummy & Daddy could ;)
I'm glad we followed that rule as it has made things so much easier with not asking for expensive things.
    Hugs

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

We were always only brought one present from FC. Now I have grown up mum and dad have said the reason behind it was they had to work so hard to get us the presents they did and didn't want FC to get all the credit lol. I agree with this though and is the tradition we are passing on to ours, even though DH grew up with all of his pressies from FC.

My b/f has been 'Mr Holly' the senior elf of FC for the last few years - he used to speak to the twins on the phone using a different voice and also write them letters which they still have. Then the year before he bought an elf figure and left it secretly for them just before Christmas when 'Mr Holly' came one night to collect their Wish lists;) - Mr Holly has pride of place on our Christmas tree each year now!

I was also a childminder before I moved house and 'Mr Holly' used to speak to the girls I looked after who were a couple of years younger than the twins - their faces were a picture when they spoke to FC'c senior elf:rotfl:

In our house (son is 16) those who believe receive......so of course we believe ;)
I think I fessed up before secondary school for the reasons above-however it was in tandem with the "believes recieves" angle and I made a big point of not spoiling it for younger children-it was our secret :D

My mum and dad have never told me and my brother and sister that Father Christmas doesn't exsist.
Every year my mum asks us if we have written our list to FC. My bro is 18 I'm 20 and my sis 28. I started asking questions about the big guy when I was around 9/10 and all my mum would say is that theres all ways one pressie under the tree who you dont know who its from.
My parents still put out a glass of sherry and mince pie for FC and a carrot for the reindeer. My mum calls my sis on Christmas eve to make sure she has done the same!!!! :rotfl:

Aw Shevs thats lovely! I've still got time to do that for my two - even I don't want to believe that there is no FC and I KNOW there isn't.

But having that bit of belief makes it all the more magical don't you think;) ?

  • I remember being in the playground with my friend in primary school, trying to work out whether he was real or not - we were puzzled because her presents were always wrapped but mine never were, they were just in my pillowcase.

Anyway I keep believing and he keeps coming (I'm 27!), the only difference is that now he does wrap my presents too!

However being an MSE fan and knowing that Father Christmas would be one too, in my letter I usually write that I have found the particular item on such and such website at a very reasonable price!!

Me too!! Sent my 'wish' list to b/f in an email the other day and suggested that he look for this and that on ebay because it was being offered at such and such a price!!

My mum and dad still carry on our little traditions even now, like getting new PJ's xmas eve, etc but I would be horrified if they ever stopped:rotfl:
  • My ds no1 (now 19) believed (or pretended very well!) until atleast year 6, ds no's 2 and 3 stopped believing a little earlier but we still have the magic with dd as she is only 5. All the presents "we buy" are delivered by santa and we've never had an issue with wanting pressies that are too expensive because we always said we have to send the money to santa, so if we can't afford it they can't have it! Always seemed to work.
