OK, probably a stupid question! but hear me out.
What is the best way to clean the engine bay? What can you use and what are the do's and dont's?
Bought myself a really nice '11 plate Seat Ibiza (1,2 Diesel) Ecomotive last year and it's immaculate, inside and out. Even the engine bay was pristine! Has been well looked after.
I'm trying to look after this car, as I use it daily for commuting, and I want it to last as long as possible. So I'm taking it upon myself to make sure its properly cleaned and maintained (unlike some of my past cars....)
After all the bad weather, and me going through a few unexpectedly deep muddle puddles down a country lane, its a bit of a mess under there, so advice is welcome!

You need a good degreaser/cleaner. I'd highly recommend Bilt Hamber Surfex HD, diluted to 10%. Apply, agitate and leave for 10 mins then rinse off carefully.

Being a diesel you do not have to worry so much about it starting after cleaning,
I always jet wash my engine bay, and cars I sell.
these are my rules,
open bonnet and look for fuse boxes and control units (like ECU, BCM etc)
when cleaning the engine bay you can give them a lite clean but do not aim the jet directly at them,
the rest of the engine should be OK,
Take for a longish drive to dry and stop any little puddles etcWe may not win by protesting, but if we don’t protest we will lose.
If we stand up to them, there is always a chance we will win.0 -
+1 for the Bilt Hammer. There's another one called Gunk, not quite as effective but cheaper and more readily available.
Once the engine bay is clean and you want to keep it that way use some all purpose cleaner on a cloth or give it a light jet wash, either will do the trick. As above, don't point the jet directly into plugs, fuse box etc.
Dry off what you can with a microfiber cloth and keep your cloths separate. If you can. set aside certain cloths for doing the engine bay and make sure you never use them on paintwork. This helps avoid swirl marksYou can have results or excuses, but not both.Challenge - be 14 Stone BY XMAS!
