Old Style Daily Friday 20th April 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning All

It's dry again! Yesterday's washing was dry, all folded and put away. Wearing lighter clothes means I may have to get the iron out at some point!

Well done on the weight loss Cranky, I've lost 10lbs since the beginning of March, probably the same to go again before I can be set free from the fat club. Once my membership is up I will probably just use the app I have as I find it very useful.

Hope the arm is better soon JackieO, sounds painful.
Ooh, new wheels Gers? Hope the car is right for you.
csarina, it must be difficult for you but I think folk are just trying to help.

We still don't have the lovely sunshine some of you have but it's definitely warmer and best of all it's not raining!

    Happy Friday! Take care. XX

Morning from a very grey Gersland. We were promised a sunny day by the BBC weather bloke!

Yes, I bought the shiny red car. :j I test drove a car of the same model yesterday and thoroughly felt at home in it. The arrangement is that I collect it next Thursday when I'm down in Glashow.

My friend's plane arrived on time and she spent the day with me st the car dealers and then the dentist. Finally arrived home about 5.30pm.

No idea what the plans are for today yet. I've got a few phone calls to make which I'll do first thing when business doors open.

I really hope everyone is doing well or on the mend. So many tough times amongst our 'family', I often have fantasies about getting a huge all encompassing magic wand to wave over OS folk.

    Happy Friday.

I don't usually see this time of day unless I need to be up for something specific but I woke at 5.40 and couldn't get back to sleep.

We took Ziggy back to DD last night so the house seems very strange without her. She's a very quiet dog but has a big personality.

I spent most of yesterday deep cleaning and decluttering the kitchen but I still have to clean the cupboard fronts and the floor. It's supposed to be hot again but at the moment it's cloudy.

I have been sent some money off vouchers for one of these box meal delivery companies that send you the fresh ingredients and a recipe. I need to investigate but I might use the vouchers and then cancel the service if it looks as if it's cost effective. DD has used them and the meals are good quality but too expensive at full price.

I'm back, having just looked at the site and decided it is still too expensive for me. Their premise is that they deliver everything to make the meals but I have plenty of spices etc and how long does it take to measure out a few spoonfuls. It might be useful for busy working people but I have the time to do my own cooking. I might lookat their menu from time to time because it might give me meal inspiration when I'm feeling a bit lacking.
  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for starting. GERS I wouldn't say no to the magic wand waving over me just now if you can find one!

Yesterday's Oncology appointment in Leeds was rather worrying. I have been concerned about Mr TA for a while (well a long while actually) but these last few months the neuropathy has worsened and he is getting bad pains in his legs. This on top of the worsening mobility problems. He hasn't felt up to eating big meals either but with such a complex array of ailments it's difficult knowing which ailment to blame this on. It has resulted in weight loss of course and his Oncology consultant is going to ring us this morning to discuss this and may bring his scan and other tests forward. This never ending worry is exhausting and I totally agree with CSARINA on that.

Meanwhile the saga of the kitchen goes on. We now have the shells of some of the cupboards, both on the wall and floor, so it's taking shape. The installer has promised that by the end of today the worktop under the window can go on and I will have a sink!! No more carrying mucky crockery up the stairs to wash up! I worry most though about crashing back down the stairs with it! (Oh and there are also two boxes in the hall containing the dishwasher and fridge, so light at the end of the tunnel at last) Yesterday they were doing all the sawing, drilling etc in the driveway in the sunshine and the racket must have driven the neighbours mad! There is now sawdust all over the drive but that means a bit less in the house! The blooming stuff, as well as a thick layer of dust, is everywhere inside.

The washing machine is still disconnected in the middle of the floor and the linen basket is overflowing! I may have to take a pile or two of washing down to DDS's this w/e to wash. I can't wait for the cooker and hob to go in as I am running out of ideas for mw meals.

The girls are to pick up from school as DD doing a late shift. They will stay for tea and then DD's bf will collect them. I left a beef casserole in the slow cooker overnight to warm up for tea and that's smelling lovely this morning but I'm not sure how well it will go down with them! They have their favourites meals for grandma to make for them and that isn't one of them!

I read back over yesterday's posts after my MIA day and can definitely top the list as far as moaners go!! Please don't anyone stop posting as I don't want to be the only moaner left on here, It's my lifeline being able to offload my woes to you all!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. JACKIE I hope your arm is improving now. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Looks to be another scorching day :j yesterday was so lovely, dd text me at work and said she had finished work early and should we go to the pub for a drink in the sun :D or course I said yes and we sat out the front in the beautiful sunshine, OH drove past and saw us so also stopped for a pint, we eventually wobbled home and made a quick dinner of egg and beans on toast.

Off to work again today but at the quiet site so we can hopefully get away about four ish, takeaway and wine tonight :D.

I must put a wash on and hoover through, although I might leave that till tomorrow morning. We are meant to get thunder and rain from tomorrow afternoon, so need to make the most of this weather.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Good morning all,

Another quick one.....JackieO still hoping your arm is improving.

Yesterday I went to the gym, took my friend shopping for healthy food, collected the HT and then I still felt fidgety so I did 2 hours of weeding in the front garden. Next door's teenage son had cut my small patch of grass when he did ours so that was one job less (and something I was grateful for).

Today I will take the HT to school then drop the car off for the front brakes to be done. It's a 5 minute walk home so I'll leave it there then come home to make a start on the back garden. I have some raspberry canes to put in. Raspberries next year, yay!

Take care all of you :)

Good morning everyone and another warm day is forecast Thank you all for your good wishes ,you are all so kind and it is appreciated.
My arm is now a rosy pink colour as opposed to scarlet so I guess the meds are working :).Blooming nuisance more than anything else as I do hate being stuck indoors when I have so many thins I could be doing.

Gers enjoy you red car the last two cars I have had are bright red as (apart from my arm ) its my favourite colour.:):)

TA you poor love you must be so worried and seem to spend most of your time too-ing and fro-ing, your new kitchen will be worth the wait hopefully.
I had a new one put in about 10 years ago and swore if I ever had it done again I would move out until it was done.

Its probably the worse room in the house to have work done in, and its not until its semi out of action you realise how much its used of all the rooms in the house.

HollyH sound wonderful to be sitting in the park ,take a book and a flask and a sandwich and just relax in the sun honey, I wish I could join you but I have to stay out of the sun sadly.

Cranky your neighbours son sounds like a lovely lad, and its nice he does your small patch of grass as well.

By right I should be at History club this afternoon but avoiding the sun means I have to give it a miss this week .Still I shall just have to find jobs indoors to do until I can go back out to play.

Hope you all have a good day and the sun shines down and gets your washing dried :):):)

    Cheers chums

Morning all, my turn for the moan corner. I think I've eaten something that has disagreed with me and have spent several hours now rushing to the loo. I never vomit, not unless I've had anaesthetic it is The Other Thing and I will spare you the details but am not enjoying this beautiful morning. I am meant to be at the dentist later but it is an hour and a half each way and I don't dare be away from the bathroom for that long.

Judi, I've just read yesterday's thread and since you posted about naughty neddies I've had Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls going round in my head, good job it is a song I'm fond of. I'm sorry you feel unappreciated, I do too. Yesterday morning I was drying my hair and my DS stomped in and told me off for waking him up. I pointed out that I was getting ready to go to work, leaving out the phrase to earn the money for your food, clothes, gym membership, personal trainer etc. Then in the evening he fetched my hair drier down and said it had gone wrong, shouldn't make so much noise and I must replace it. The thoughts that went through my head included Oh S*d Off but I did not utter them.

Deleted_User and TA you are not having a load of fun, are you, I'm sorry.

Holly, I'm hoping the sunshine is helping and as you say it does give you the chance of being out and away from things that are scary.

JackieO hope you are less sore.

Hester please please post, you don't know how much you cheer me up.

Everyone else, if I have not included you, it isn't deliberate, I don't have the brain for everything.

Mrs SD bonjour, a tout a l'heure, quelle belle journee , Le soleil, less spaghettis, ta soeur. .. a
I am terrible rusty, my degree was in french but so, so many years ago.

    Good morning all

Please please, no one stop posting, just because you are having a bad day.
I have always thought I was odd, different. I don't have the social skills for RL friends.
I know I'm not the only one to have problems in life. Others have 'difficult' parents, grownup children who are a pain and other worries.
Hopefully we can support each other and as TA says "I don't want to be the only moaner left on here, It's my lifeline being able to offload my woes to you all!"
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

Silver Oldie you aren't the moaniest, , I think I can give you a run for hour money. I do try to be upbeat here, some days I just want to lie down in a darkened room and howl.

I am starting to feel a bit sick now.

I forgot to tell you my goid bit of yesterday, apart from a book discussion with my manager, there is a flower stall near where I get the bus home from work. On cold days or hot days or any day when he decides he wants to go home, the flower man sells all the standard bunches for £1 each. For the princely sum of £2 I have a lovely lot of pretty flowers cheering up my sitting room. I know buying flowers is not OS but now that I have no garden until we buy another house, I am thinking of them as investing in my cheerfulness
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
