Has anyone every asked a lender to remove a red mark from their report (late or missed payments) and been successful.
My ex-husband had a current account which we added my name to so I could deal with any queries on the phone or on-line. We split up over 2 years ago and I asked the bank to remove my name from the joint account but they said I could only do it with his permission and as the break-up was acrimonious he refused. He then went over his overdraft limit and stopped using the account so it incurred monthly charges over a period of a few months. The account was only closed down when we sold our house and he paid off the overdraft with proceeds from the sale.
I now have this recorded on my credit report as missed payments over a 6 month period and it is stopping me from getting a mortgage.

No. It's a reflection of your credit history.
But a good broker should be able to place a mortgage if this is the only issue.0 -
Hi Carolann312,
This is an unfortunate situation, and whilst you can ask for the information to be removed, the bank are unlikely to do that if it is accurate. When something is in joint names you will be jointly and severally liable for the debt and create a financial association on your credit file.
If you have nothing else outstanding in joint names, you should look to file a financial disassociation with the credit agencies to stop your credit files being linked.

Hi Laura
I am already disasocciated with my ex as all financial links are now gone as the accounts have been closed but the late payments will still show for 6 yrars on my report even though they were nothing to do with me as I understand it.
Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll be renting for the foreseeable. It annoys me that my good record of paying rent on time for the last six months (a rent which is higher than a mortgage payment would be) is not even taken into account
:(
