Lodging/renting - deposit

Hi, I'm looking either to lodge or rent a room when I move south next month and wondered whether I'll be covered by the new deposit protection scheme? I know (from the Shelter website) that lodging is a bit different to other renting and it didn't sound like there would be any sort of deposit protection scheme (all the ads I've seen want a deposit, usually at least £400). I'm presuming that renting a room is viewed like renting a house or flat and the normal protections apply?

no and no!
Sorry as a lodger ( ie someone who lives witht their landlord)
you have much fewer rights than a tenant.
you will technically be an 'excluded occupier'
for example you would only need to be given very short notice to leave...0 -

Thanks -yes, that's the page I've seen. But some of the ads I've seen are someone, who is already renting from a live out landlord, who is looking for a flatmate so I'm not sure who is responsible for what in that situation.0
